Pioneer Gourmet Coffee is owned by local entrepreneur, Colin Burton.
Colin has been in the Okanagan for 20 years and has an extensive
background in sales, management, and food distribution.
He is strong believer in giving back to the community he loves. You will find Pioneer Gourmet Coffee supporting such causes as The Gospel Mission, Kelowna Food Bank, KMHA, KSA, numerous school fundraisers and more.
Pioneer Coffee was founded by Luigi Cicchelli, a fourth-generation coffee roaster from Italy who moved to Canada to explore and develop his passion for giving customers the best possible cup of coffee.
The Cicchelli family name has been closely associated with the coffee industry in Europe (specifically Italy) for decades. From a very young age Luigi learned a great deal about coffee from his family.
From a very young age Luigi learned a great deal about coffee from his family. With time and practice he developed a keen understanding of specific bean characteristics and what is needed to draw out each bean's unique qualities during the roasting process.
As much as Luigi loved the business, a decade later he decided to retire.
My cafe international PLC stepped in and purchased Pioneer Coffee from the Cicchellis in December of 2007, changing the name to Cafe Invento in July of 2008.
Fast forward a couple years and along come two cool cats with fresh new ideas. They took a look at the business and saw its amazing potential.
They realized that a lot of existing customers were loyal lovers of Pioneer Coffee. So with a little elbow grease, some good marketing and hella good coffee, Pioneer Gourmet Coffee was reborn.
The secret to Pioneer Gourmet Coffee is the old world way we roast our beans. The way our technique brings out the aroma and flavour locked in the green bean is truly magical.
Roasting is both an art and a science and at Pioneer we are proud to continue the same tried and true roasting technique used by four generations of the Cicchelli family.
